Selas Karbo-Matic Furnaces Are Versatile And Fully Automated.

The Selas KARBO-MATIC® furnace line offers a complete range of fully automated, versatile heat treating furnaces for such applications as hardening, carbonitriding and carburizing with automatic quenching under atmosphere for clean, quality work.

Based on years of solid field experience, this second-generation line of KARBO-MATIC® furnaces offers an outstanding combination of desirable features not previously available, with a full range of sizes in both electric and gas fired models. The KARBO-MATIC® furnace line has been developed on a systems concept complete with companion draw furnaces, endothermic generators, carbon potential controllers, and all other major equipment for the modern heat treating shop available from a single reliable source.



HIGH QUENCH CAPACITY
Selas quench tank oil capacity is more than adequate. There is no danger that your load production will fail below par or that part quality will suffer. Selas provides one gallon of quenchant media per pound of steel to be quenched. Also, the oil circulation pattern ensures penetration of dense loads and positive uniform quenching for every part in the basket.

RUGGED DEPENDABILITY
The ruggedness and simplicity of the patented Selas KARBO-MATIC® furnace straight-through design permits the furnace to operate reliably day in and day out, reducing costly downtime. Loading and transfer mechanisms are all external to the heated chamber.

ENOUGH TUBES TO DO THE JOB
KARBO-MATIC® furnaces have extra tubes for reserve heating capacity and long tube life - enough to provide the specified heating rate without excessive temperature or premature burnout.

ALLOY CONSTRUCTION
In KARBO-MATIC® furnaces, the hearth and fan assemblies are of alloy construction for superior dependability. You avoid the problems of non-repairable ceramic components, which frequently crack if the furnace must be shut down.

MAXIMUM PRODUCTION
The rugged mechanisms and oversized quench tanks of Selas KARBO-MATIC® furnaces easily handle and properly quench maximum loads. You get more real production.

100% AUTOMATED
At Selas, automated means fully automated - not semi-automatic. KARBO-MATIC® furnaces are totally machine paced, requiring no operator decisions. Loads may be added and removed at operator's discretion with no loss of production time. The chamber is re-loaded completely whether the operator is present or not.

OPERATOR CONVENIENCE
A Selas KARBO-MATIC® furnace makes the operator's job easier and safer. A power-operated loader is included as standard equipment. There is no chance that your furnace will be damaged by careless manual loading and no need for anyone to do backbreaking load pushing. Furnace operating controls are conveniently located and automatic sequences are maintained without need for resetting after every cycle. In addition, the system compensates for varying load sizes by automatically activating a soak timer after temperature has recovered.

VISIBLE DOME LIGHTS, FAIL-SAFE OPERATION
KARBO-MATIC® furnace dome lights, which indicate need for loading and unloading, are visible from anywhere in the shop. The system is fail-safe in the event of power interruption and the automated sequences are maintained once power is restored.

COMPATIBILITY WITH ALL BASKETS AND ALL GRIDS
Designed with simple, reliable push rods, KARBO-MATIC® furnaces handle any baskets or grids of approximately the right size. There is no need to buy special grids and baskets to match retracting mechanisms and no worry that such mechanisms might tear expensive alloy baskets apart.

TRUE ATMOSPHERE CONTROL
KARBO-MATIC® furnaces are engineered to permit extremely precise atmosphere control. (The popular new automatic carbon potential controls are largely useless in a furnace which flames around the door seal.) Selas provides profiled door guides and rollers which minimize gasket wear, yet clamp the door tight in the closed position.
